Remembering Free Tibet

On March 10, 2004, people around the world will commemorate the 45th anniversary of the Tibetan uprising that was brutally crushed by the Chinese communist army. The oppression of Tibet is not, unfortunately, just a matter of the past. Beijing continues – and in some areas intensifies – the pressure to subdue the culturally and religiously unique people of Tibet. This year again, Olympic Watch joins the commemorative events.

We call on our supporters as well as first-time visitors of our website to attend events in their area that will namely call on the Beijing government:

• to commute the death penalty for Tenzin Delek Rinpoche, ensure a new, fair trial according to international law standards for him and for others and
• to immediately start unconditional talks with the Tibetan government-in-exile about the status of Tibet.

To this end, Olympic Watch has joined the Lungta association in organizing Candlelight for Tenzin Delek Rinpoche, an event that will take place on March 9, 6pm at Prague’s Betlemske square and several other places around the Czech Republic. We invite our Czech-based supporters to participate in this event, and offer our international supporters assistance in finding events in their area. Please feel free to contact us.
